Most Improved.

Yeah, Stewart, that's how I read it too. I very rarely vote for the winning team in the division unless they have improved.
If they hit 1st place but have a lower T11/17 than I'll give a nod for that.
But T11/17 coming first is like, M'eh.
In our division there appears to be a mix of votes which is fine although AFC are getting the nod. BAL have made massive strides too.
I always spread my votes out though so if some managers put 5 votes into 1 team then that totally wipes mine.

Most Improved Evolution 1 Team

TED have received 9 votes and I thank all those who voted. I've been trying to work out if we
merited this. We improved our league position by one, but other teams have improved by more.
However, we couldn't have improved by more than one. We maintained our T11/T17 position, so no
improvement there, but again, it wasn't possible to make an improvement. I then realised that our
league points total of 55 was 11 better than last season's tally of 44 points. That may have been
worthy of your votes but I don't know if any other team bettered that. Looking towards this award
category for next season, we can't improve our league position or our T11/T17 position and we
can't improve our league points total by more than 11. Logically we should receive no votes no
matter how well we perform!

It's been open for a couple of weeks but you are right, it has been closed for now.. It seems pretty quick as the cup final was only 1 week ago.
I think it's been auto-closed. I don't know if Adam will re-open it briefly before running the award ceremony/end of season/aging horror.

On a lighter note, there is fierce competition across ALL five divisions for the "Division 2 Most
Improved Team" and the "Division 3 Press Writers Award". The other divisions don't get a look-in
with respect to these two awards, literally!!

Most Improved....

Colin makes an interesting point. A "Most Improved Whatever" award is one I've always disliked
simply because it excludes some of the participants by its very definition. There are also a
number of different ways to judge such an award. What is the "Most Improved Team"? Is it the team
that has improved its final league placing the most when compared with last season? That would
automatically exclude last season's champions simply because it is impossible for them to improve
their league position and would probably also include other top placed teams. Is it the team that
improved their league points total the most? That too might automatically exclude last season's
top performers. No matter how you define it some teams are going to be at a disadvantage from the
start and that can't be right.

Too much

Lads, I appreciate the votes but really, it’s all too much. Having won Div 2 and then winning Div 1 at first time asking perhaps
Most Improved Team was justified but it’s hard to justify this season. Still, as I have already said, I really appreciate the votes

Roster

The problems are: what is good and what is bad?
I have been naming to a theme, a changed theme from one I used to use, but still.
Apparently it is unpopular - no one is voting for me, hey ho, and I agree it is obscure if you
don't know my reasoning - but I won't stop doing so because of that.
But of course as with anyone else I sign several players from other teams, they don't fit in
with the theme, someone else decided them, but I am being judged on them too.

Actually my big problem with it is that it is highly subjective.
But if it isn't getting rewarded/punished and some people are having fun with it then I have no
problem with it, it doesn't matter, I just won't be getting that interested or het up about it
myself.

As an addition to my point. Rather than have all these single votes for individual players. Just have it you pick the team with the player you like the most. Or hate the most.

I would happily pick out some opposition DF/GKs who have spoilt/saved chance after chance.
Or equally I could pick the team with the player name that I like the most or who I think has been a stand out player.

Yes, it's still hugely subjective but so what?

Roster

It's a tricky one for the roster. Most teams won't add many new players each season.
So you could easily get the same teams picking up the same nominations for several seasons.
But I actually like voting on themed teams/names
It pays to pick a theme of more recognisable names - stars, super heroes, my little ponies...
Whereas my own side are all St Pauli players, but even i haven't heard of them

Best Named Roster

I maintain an unoriginal, yet static, criteria for my player names. They all have one thing in common, not much
else. I think some of our names are pretty good, but we never rank high on the annual list. I'm not sure this
category should continue to be voted upon (and that's not because I don't rank high - though it sounded that way
when I went back to read before I hit submit).

Trader

For the category, Most Enterprising Trader, I tend to go for who made the most trades and, ideally, the most profit.
The information stats abuot teams tells you who has most money but that's not a good enough indicator on it's own. Some people never trade or auction so they will tend to have funds at seasons end.
So i then look at the teams account summary to check if they did any tradin at all. To a point I will still recognise a 'bad' trader as they are still being enterprising.

I think Brian and Steve make good points. The categories should be easily quantifiable to enable
all managers to make meaningful votes. I, too, find some of them very difficult to quantify,
especially when I try to judge some of the categories outside of Evolution 1. Perhaps it is time
to review the appropriateness of each category and drop those that can't be easily measured. Like
Brian, I attempted to make a meaningful decision for the five categories which Brian listed below
and mostly ignored the other categories.

The problem I have with trying to judge the best named rosters is that when I look at the rosters
I can't identify a theme because I don't recognise a lot of the chosen names! Prosperous Trader is
also a bit of a non-event simply because there are so few trades.

Yeah you are probably correct, I would like to vote on the writers award and most improved
(although that should be just a manager of the season award) but the others seem very division
specific.
The trade one is especially tough to me, does making a lot of trades actually mean you were an
enterprising trader??? Not downing it just not sure how to quantify. If someone makes a trade
that i feel they have "won" i generally keep a note of it and use it for this award but seems a
bit tougher to notice in divisions where im not involved.

I kind of agree with you Steve, in that I don't pay enough attention to all five divisions. That being said, I think
several of the categories can be voted upon with a little bit of research:

Most Improved Team
Writers Award
Best Home Kit
Best Away Kit
Team You Most Like to Beat

I take about 30-45 minutes each season to vote on all five divisions.

I think Most Enterprising Trader is a bit difficult to gauge, though you can look through all trades/transactions to
get an idea. Perhaps if there was a tool to sort on total number of trades per team, with maybe columns for net count
of cash, CP, and players for each club, this vote item might receive more attention?

I have to admit I don't spend much time on the Best Named Roster vote.

Anyway, just some thoughts I wanted to share.

Unbeaten Season...So Nearly!

Indeed Brian, I echo Bill's sentiments below. It would have been a magnificent achievement to have
posted an unbeaten league campaign, though losing just one game is still exceptional. Has any club
